Thumbs up to the movement sweeping across the nation for free lunch for students. This is a step in the right direction to stop the shaming of students that are unable to pay for their school lunch.

Thumbs up to the Ann Dancing, the electronic sculpture of a girl dancing, being repaired on Massachusetts Ave. in downtown Indianapolis. Downtown Indianapolis has been missing a little bit of its culture since it has been down.

Thumbs up to the revival of our childhood’s biggest rival: Disney vs. Nickelodeon. Recently, Disney came out with Disney+ that has all of its movies exclusively on their streaming service, while Nickelodeon signed an exclusive deal with Netflix to stream all of their old and current shows on the service. It is fun to see that even after all these years, the networks are still top-notch competitors from then and now.

Thumbs up to the Northview Church, a Hoosier church chain, for paying off nearly $8 million worth of medical bills for families across Indiana. The churches were able to negotiate with hospitals and pay off $7.8 million worth of debt with their $40,000 worth of donations from their locations.

Thumbs down to the gun violence that never seems to stop. We keep trying to find ways to prevent getting shot instead of worrying about how to stop it at the root of its problem. If losing students and having frequent mass shootings is not enough in order to get stricter gun legislation, then what is?

Thumbs down to Indiana University for not firing Professor Eric Rasmusen after finding a history of his misogynistic, homophobic and racist views on his Twitter and personal website. Although his personal thoughts are terribly intolerant, the university claims that his job is protected by his first amendment rights of freedom of speech.

Thumbs down to Indiana’s rich history with having mayors arrested. Last month, the mayor of Muncie was arrested with ties to stealing government funds. In the last five years, Indiana has had four mayors arrested. Corruption of Indiana officials reach ties to the Ku Klux Klan to violating Prohibition laws to stealing public money.

Thumbs down to the illegal recruiting scandal found at Southport High School. It was discovered that one of the coaches had donated over $5,500 in tuition to get a 6-foot-six basketball player from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Thankfully, the school is being reprimanded appropriately, and the Indiana High School Sports Association is suspending the school from their tournaments this year and removing them from Class 4A.
